Good communication with Peregrine Ogden when enquiring/booking and a price was agreed on to be paid to the driver on the day. It was also suggested we stop off and visit Lombok Wildlife Park on our way back to the airport. We were picked up on time at the airport by our driver, who spoke little English, but instead of stopping at Senggigi as planned, he drove straight through! We had to explain to the driver that we had booked to stop off at Senggigi for 3 hours. He had to ring the boss to check and then turned around and took us back. We were not sure if we were in the main part as there was just a small beach, a few empty market stalls and a couple of restaurants so we didn't stay too long. The speedboat was quick and enjoyable. On our return trip our driver spoke fluent English and he took us to Lombok Wildlife Park and he was even our guide in the park, taking photographs/videos and showing us around. We had a fantastic time in Lombok Wildlife Park and would recommend a visit. The driver also offered to stop for us to see the monkeys by the road on the way back and he provided a very good, efficient service and he took great photos/videos for us in the Wildlife park. The terrain is also different, literally half dry and half wet. That is only the beginning of the fun. Lombok's culture is quite strong, dominated by the Sasak people. They are warm and friendly and funny. I mention all of this because Lombok is rapidly becoming more and more popular, so get here now before it becomes Bali the second. The best way to experience Lombok is to park yourself at one of the many resort hotels to get comfortable, and hire yourself a good guide to see the rest of the island. Ardi is the best of the best. I met him years ago on my first visit and he has been my guide ever since. He's picked me up at the airport, gotten me to my hotel, taken me around the island and we've even done day trips to the nearby Gili Islands. Ardi knows Lombok inside and out. He knows the most beautiful beaches to take you to, as well as the inland sites, where to have the freshest seafood for lunch, and where to stop for the coldest and richest coconut water. He also knows people all over the island so wherever he takes you, the friendly greeting he always gets is a bonus extended to you as well. Ardi speaks English fluently and easily, as well as Indonesian and his native Sasak. However a small number of other 'blue' taxis have appeared on the island during 2012. As is the case in Jakarta and Bali these may look very similar to the Bluebirds, in some cases they are ex-Bluebird vehicles and so the colour and model match is near perfect. Normally if people on Lombok see a taxi that looks like a Bluebird anywhere on the island they will logically assume that it is one, that is now no longer appropriate.
